What is a Chemical Peels?

Chemical peels are a non-surgical procedure using a chemical solution, typically an acid, to “peel” away the top layers of the epidermis and stimulate the body’s natural collagen production system to regenerate skin. The treatment has been proven to improve conditions such as acne, irregular pigmentation, or wrinkles.

Types of Chemical Peels

There are many peels available, each with its unique benefits. Vagotis Cosmetic Surgery and Skin Center offers the following chemical peel treatments in Grand Rapids, MI:

PCA Skin® Chemical Peels

Traditional chemical peels are often associated with discomfort and extensive recoveries. PCA Skin® has designed chemical peels that produce dramatic results without the discomfort and downtime associated with other facial peels. This results in smoother, more radiant skin and a rejuvenated appearance. PCA Skin® professional treatments are formulated to preserve, promote, and protect healthy skin, regardless of whether the patient sees visible exfoliation following the treatment. Vagotis Skin Center offers three different PCA Skin® peels to address various skin types and conditions.

PCA Skin® Sensi Peel

The Sensi Peel Exfoliating Treatment is a gentle peel designed for ethnic skin and other sensitive skin types. This peel can improve sun damage and other hyperpigmentation problems. It can also significantly improve the redness and inflammation associated with rosacea. The Sensi Peel strengthens and brightens the skin while providing anti-inflammatory, anti-acne, and antibacterial action. This is also a perfect introductory peel.

PCA Skin® Ultra Peel

The Ultra Peel Exfoliating Treatment is ideal for mature, dehydrated skin. It can improve smokers’ skin, pigment disorders, sun damage, and acne. This peel is appropriate for many skin types and conditions. It is particularly beneficial in treating sensitive skin because only a mild tingling sensation occurs during the treatment. Depending on the amount of layer applied, this peel can produce a moderate to aggressive level of exfoliation, producing plumper, softer, and more hydrated skin.

PCA Skin® Peel with Hydroquinone

The PCA Skin® Peel with Hydroquinone is an enhanced Jessner’s formula for those who want an even skin tone and are not sensitive to hydroquinone. It will help to lighten pigment discolorations of any kind quickly. It is an excellent treatment for melasma and sun-damaged skin. In addition, this peel helps inhibit active acne and correct post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation from acne.

PCA Skin® MD Peel (CCl3)

The PCA Skin® MD Peel is a medium-depth peel suitable for resilient skin. It dramatically rejuvenates the skin and improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while promoting an even skin tone. Note: This peel is for physician use only.

What’s the First Step?

Your Chemical Peels Journey with Dr. Francine Vagotis

If you have a variety of skin issues but prefer to avoid surgery or more invasive cosmetic treatments, chemical peels may be right for you! Please schedule a consultation at Vagotis Cosmetic Surgery and Skin Center in Grand Rapids, MI. Our certified esthetician will meet with you to discuss your skincare goals and medical history and recommend which chemical peel treatment is best for your skin. With your agreement, we will draw up a personalized treatment plan tailored to your skin conditions and goals. A member of our patient care team will then be able to schedule your treatments at times convenient for you.

What to Expect on the Day of Chemical Peel Surgery

On the day of your chemical peel treatment, you will be welcomed by our patient care team and made comfortable. Chemical peels are performed in our outpatient facility, meaning you will be able to return home the same day as your treatment.

Our licensed esthetician will meet with you once more to review your treatment plan and give you the space to ask any additional questions before beginning the treatment.

When you are ready, you will be given protective eyewear, and your skin will be cleansed and prepped to receive the chemical peel solution. Your esthetician will then apply the solution using cotton gauze or a sterile applicator. You may feel mild stinging as the chemical solution treats the skin. Some patients may receive local or general anesthesia or be advised to take over-the-counter painkillers prior to their treatment to mitigate the side effects of the chemical treatment.

After enough time has elapsed, your face will be cleansed of the chemical solution, and you will receive a cold compress to soothe and relax the skin after treatment.

Your Guide to Post-Chemical Peels Care

After your chemical peel treatment, you may feel mild to moderate stinging or burning. The skin may also appear red. You will be given aloe vera or an ice pack to soothe the skin.

Your side effects are due to the chemical solution peeling the upper dermal layers so the body can produce collagen to restore the layers with new skin. Dr. Vagotis strongly recommends avoiding sun exposure in the days following your treatment to prevent excessive sun damage to the skin.

How Much Does a Chemical Peel Cost in Grand Rapids, MI?

The cost of Chemical Peels in Grand Rapids will vary depending on the type of chemical solution selected for your treatment, the number of appointments necessary to correct underlying skin conditions and achieve the desired aesthetic goals, and facility fees. Your licensed esthetician can provide a cost analysis and a summary of financing options.
